a week of spring break adventure

Don't let the title fool you, we have been in Buena Vista for spring break. Matt has been working and I have been listening to Wicked. A lot. Also, I have cleaned a lot and we had people over for dinner several times this week. It's great what you can do when you don't have homework- or rather, when you have time to procrastinate your homework. I suppose spring break really started last Saturday, when we bought our new couch (see post below) which, by the way, is fabulous. We also ate at Macado's on Saturday in Lexington. Sunday we had Kathryn and Kristen over for dinner and finally got to see Kristen's engagement ring, which is beautiful and oh-so-sparkly. We also went to church that day. We made home made pasta for dinner with cream sauce a-la Matt. It was bow tie pasta and Kristen was the master bow tie maker. Monday I did five loads of laundry and watched girl shows like clean house with Kathryn all day. Then we had steaks for dinner and had Kathryn over. Somehow we got talking about Oobleck, which Kathryn had never heard of, so we made some and had a great time. If you haven't played with oobleck before you are missing out. Google it- it will blow your mind. Tuesday I had work during the day and we made Buffalo Chicken Wing Soup with Robin and Baden. Another delicious meal. We watched Fantasy Factory both Monday and Tuesday because we love it. The same episode, different company. Funny every time. Wednesday we went to Roanoke as soon as Matt got off work with Robin and Baden. We had dinner at Sam's Club- one of our favorites for the flavor and value. We shopped around and Matt got 3 new dress shirts for work and a nice orange tie. We also bought chicken in bulk because we basically eat it every night. Thursday was the day before Kathryn's birthday (which is today) but she is out of town now so we celebrated yesterday. We had a hot tub bash at Steve's house, complete with virgin daquiri's and a cake shaped like a hot tub. We also made pizza (two nights in a row!) with some deep dish crusts that Baden got free from Domino's. I did manage to do a minute amount of homework as well. Now today we have no big plans. We had hoped to get our table and chairs sanded and painted this week, and I think we are still going to try to get some of that done. We are having poppyseed chicken for dinner and I am going grocery shopping before I pick Matt up for work. I might also buy an orchid plant to go next to our new couch.

Such is the exciting life of Matt and Holli. We might rent a red box movie if we really want a fun filled weekend!! SPRING BREAK '09!!!

Their faces really capture the adventure that was oobleck

The hot tub cake before it got the cool whip bubbles. Those are cut off mermaid dolls.

We got a new couch... cool huh?!

Here it is! We got this sectional from a furniture outlet in Roanoke. We went down with the intention of looking, but not buying. Matt went down with the intention of telling me no. But, the deal was too good. Also, this couch is not green like it looks. I took this picture at night with our bad lighting. The color is actually called cappucino- I would say it is greyish-brown or taupe. Matt would say it is.... well, actually it doesn't matter, he is color blind. We had quite a time at the furniture store trying to refer to sofas we had looked at.... "you know, that green one that was really soft?"  it was actually brown. Poor Matt. We got the OK from our landlord to start painting (he is working it into our lease) so we are looking for colors that won't be too hard to paint back over when we leave, although I am pushing for purple in the dining room. The things by the clock are color sample cards. So far we don't quite have a color scheme for this room... but i'm working on it. Also, it is spring break, so I get to stay home while my hard workin husband goes out and earns the big bucks.
