Notice something different here? We’ve been making a few changes, and we are really excited about them.
But before I tell you about the changes and why we’ve decided to make them, allow me to share with you some history of this here blog.
We started very unceremoniously (no ‘hey! We started a blog!’ post- just jumped right in to sharing about our lives) in January of 2009. It was Matt’s idea. I agreed, but he did the leg work and got us started. He wrote our first post, and last year posted more frequently than I did. He was the one nudging me to blog about baby things and crafty things. I guess we both thought it would be a good way to keep family up to date and to record what was happening in our lives. Although I love reading other’s blogs (I often ‘blog-stalk’-going from one blog to the next reading about others’ oh-so-fascinating lives) I didn’t really love writing my own. It was always such a hassle because I would wait forever to post then have to write a novel (like this one, this one, etc.). With all of the changes that have happened in our lives these past few months, I’m now in a position where I (1) have more time to blog, and (2) enjoy blogging more. As with many other aspects of family life, the tables have turned here in the Coats casa, and I’m now the primary blogger. Any else noticed a drastic increase in posts? Yep, that’s that table-turning making itself manifest.
So in light of my new vigor for blogging, I’ve been thinking a little about what our blog is. A family blog? Yep, we love telling about what is going on with our little family and keeping our loved ones in the loop. Food blog? You bet. Matt loves trying out new recipes and sharing them with anyone who reads. Crafty blog? I’m all about sharing my creations and linking to others’ as well. At one point we thought about starting separate food and craft blogs, but I advised against it because I thought that would just be too much to keep up with (and we were hardly posting on our one blog at that point anyway). So I’ve been thinking… most blogs I read are one type of blog- they post on this kind of thing or that kind of thing (except Pioneer Woman- man she does everything!), but I kind of like our variety blog. And though our old title is descriptive (who’s blog am I reading? Oh! It’s Matt and Holli’s blog!) it was a little… blah. And didn’t tell you anything about us or what you might read on this here blog. And I think it made it seem a little more ‘family blog’, which we like, but doesn’t necessarily welcome new readers (especially those we aren’t personally acquainted with). So although we aren’t trying to be the next big blog or anything, we certainly love sharing our lives with you readers and hope our blog continues to grow, which means making it more welcoming to those who might stumble upon it (or already secretly blog stalk but are afraid to comment because we really don’t know each other that well… I know you are out there. I’ve been in your shoes.)
For us, making it more welcoming has included changing the name. Yep, we are giving our blog direction by making it about our lives (Modern Family anyone? “he gave the show direction by making it about the world.” Love it.) We added some tabs up top to tell you more about us and the content you might find here. These also serve as quick links to past posts sorted by category- although you can always use the handy-dandy search bar to the right. We hope these changes are inviting and better represent us.
