House Tour

Remember how in this post I mentioned giving you all a house tour? Since I literally only have one friend who has ever seen the inside of our new place I figured it might be fun. And since I tell you all about all sorts of menial things about my life, seeing where they all happen might be cool. You know how you picture how someone looks from hearing their voice or having a friend talk about them, but then when you meet them they look completely different? Well I do that with spaces too. I envision someone in their house/office/whatever and then when I actually see it, its usually completely different than I imagined. Anyone else do that?

I also love to decorate and diy things for my home. You'll see real quick that I haven't done much of that at all in our new place- so you can bet I'll be doing those sorts of projects in the future. Now you'll have a dreary before to compare all those after pics to. It could be kinda fun. You can see our little place transform into a home. It it going to take a little elbow grease to get this place where we want it- it lacks the charm that our last place had, is smaller, and has awful cabinets in both bathrooms and the kitchen. Should be an adventure :)

Here is a floor plan for you all soon so you can see how everything connects (like they did on one of my favorite DIY blogs, Young House Love)

**warning** extraordinarily bad pictures follow. Our apartment has no natural light in either bathrooms, and very little in the kitchen. Maybe some day I'll figure out how to take better pictures under these circumstances. For now, you either get very dark photos or some awful flash. Deal.

And just so it seems like we've actually made some progress, I've got pictures from 4 days after we moved in (they are awful and kind of embarrassing) and from 2 months after (so about a month ago. still embarrassingly bare).

We'll start at the front door- or what you see as you enter the front door- the kitchen...

(4 days) Narrow and small kitchen, but tons more storage than our old house had, so its fairly functional.

(2 months) The counters got cleaned off. Thats about it.
And then the living room...
(4 days) View to your right as you walk in. Yikes. The wall on the left has the kitchen sink/bar behind it which separates the living room from the kitchen.

(2 months) Looking better, but this area still needs some work.

(4 days) View from the other end of the narrow kitchen. The washer/dryer is in the closet just to our right. That pile of boxes stayed there for a while, unfortunately.
(4 days) Looking in to the living room. Behind the TV is a fireplace! This room also has vaulted ceilings. See the bar to the left?  We hope to have barstools there some day, since we no longer have a dining area.
(2 months) Farewell sectional! It was just too big for this space. And our sofa sleeper didn't fit in Charly's room, so we moved that to the living room. We have plans for a chair in that far corner.

(4 days) View of the back side of the living room. What a mess.

(2 months) Without the sectional we will have room for barstools.

Down the hall to the right is Charly's room...

(4 days) Charly's room. She currently sleeps in a cradle in our room, so it was OK that her crib was still in pieces.
(2 months) We tidied up a bit :)

(4 days) Other view of Charly's room.
(2 momths) No more sofa sleeper

(2 months) Her closet is to the left of the dresser/changing table
And to the left is the guest bath.
(4 days) Guest bath. We used the bath tub for box storage for a while.

(4 days) Other view of the guest bath. And me in my awesome SVU sweatpants.
(2 months) Our now functioning guest bath. No more boxes!

Now on to the master suite!
(4 days) View looking in to our bedroom.

(4 days) Sadly, the bedroom looked like this for a while.
(2 months) Looking much better!

(2 months) My dresser now has the mirror attached

(2 months) Matt's dresser found a new home- better than in front of the window.

(4 days) Master bath. Its small, so it is hard to get a good picture.
(2 months) Master with shelves hung.

Another view.

(4 days) Small walk in closet (!!) in our room.
(2 months) Walk in closet looking much better! Still need to re-label those bins (baking goods, snacks and pasta are not stored in my closet.)
We have our work cut out for us don't we? Any suggestions on decor/small space function is welcome!
