A Memorable Memorial Day

Source

I hope you all had a fun Memorial Day weekend- we did! We didn't travel anywhere, but we had fun at home- which is kind of like traveling, since we haven't lived here that long. We still get excited to find out what there is to do in our little town.

Friday evening Matt's parents came in from Richmond to stay the night and spend Saturday with us (and lets be honest, to get some good ol' fashioned grandparent time). Matt and Steve headed in to DC to see Top Chef the Tour at Eastern Market. Matt is a Top Chef junkie. We were all about Top Chef All Stars this past season, so when Matt found out they would be doing a tour here he set his sights on attending. One of his favorite Chefs, Carla, was one of the ones there. The only thing that could have made him happier was if Richard Blais himself was there. And laughed at his jokes. Matt loves it when people laugh at his jokes. If he ate Matt's food, said it was delicious, and laughed at his jokes, he would die a happy man. They ate at We The Pizza on Capitol Hill, which is owned by a former Top Chef contestant. Spike. It was good. I had the leftovers.

Meanwhile, Lori, Charly and I had some girl time at the outlet mall, which is just a few stoplights from our apartment (be jealous:). They had awesome sales, and we got there before it got too crowded so we could actually navigate with a stroller. We had a great time and Charly was such a trooper! She is an awesome shopper. I'm training her early.

Before Lori and Steve headed home we ate at Moby Dick again. We love that place. Who knew Iranian food was so good?

Sunday was church and relaxing. We went for an evening walk and it felt so nice to get outside! Charly passed out in the stroller (which, by the way, she is using without the carseat attachment now. She's growing so fast!) and therefore took a late nap and was difficult to get to sleep, but it was worth it.

Monday Charly slept in until 7! Matt got up with her and let me sleep in until after 8, which was fantastic. And he made breakfast. He's a stud. He also worked on doing a DIY diaper sprayer, but has to search a little more for one of the parts. We'll post about that when/if we are able to complete it.

This play by play is getting pretty long, so lets skip to the fun part. We took Charly swimming for the first time! The pool at our apartment complex opened this weekend so we took the opportunity to get that cute little thing into her bathing suit and let her feel out the water. She was pretty unsure about what to think for most of it, but she kicked her legs almost the entire time! We spent more time taking adorable pictures of her than we did actually swimming. What can we say? We are kind of in love with her. I'm hoping for lots more swimming pool time this summer as the days get hotter. It was in the mid nineties here and the pool felt amazing! Here are a few of the hundred or so pictures we took (ok, 109 to be exact- we have a problem) at the pool today.

All ready for the pool!

The water took some getting used to...

but then she got in to it!

She was entranced by the water.

Best picture ever.

She loved watching the kids play. Check out those chunky little legs!

Not sure what was going on here. Still cute.

Getting in to my bathing suit for the first time post baby was not something I was looking forward to. I definitely have some work to do. I'm going to sign up for a race here in Leesburg with my friend for Fourth of July weekend, so I have good motivation to get my rear in gear. My rear is definitely what needs the most work- I also went for my first run post-baby, and lets just say, there was a whole lot more jiggle than I remember. I'm going to have to be persistent to be ready for this race in time- wish me luck! I'm also going to need some good tunes to keep me going. Anyone have suggestions for good pump-you-up running music?

All in all, we had a fun weekend at home. We so enjoyed the extra day off together and look forward to lots more summer fun in the near future!
