Roasted Strawberry and Buttermilk Ice Cream with Balsamic Drizzle

We had a really hard time choosing an ice cream flavor for this week, so I cracked open my Father's day present to see if I could find something tasty to make. What was my Father's day present you ask? Well I am glad you asked because it is the perfect segue in my plug for this book!

Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams at Home

It was the perfect gift for our summer long ice cream adventure! This book is chock full of wacky delicious and adventurous flavors. They also break it down by seasons so you always know what is  in season when making your ice cream. Because we all know ice cream is a year long staple.I will let Jeni plug her own book:

So when I opened the book I turned to the first recipe, Roasted Strawberry and Buttermilk Ice Cream. I knew we had a ton of strawberries in the freezer so I listed off the other ingredients to Holli and come to find out we had them all. It was meant to be! The book suggested a balsamic reduction drizzle, you know to make it more grown up. You can do it without the drizzle, but we really liked it. It is sweet and tangy just like the strawberries so it paired really well.

I found the recipe online so you can try it for yourself. All of her recipes are really easy and almost always use the same base. Oh and here is a basic recipe for a balsamic reduction too. If you are too lazy to make it yourself you can always order a pint online at her website. They will ship it to your house all packed in dry ice. You can also go here and find out what local grocery stores sell her ice creams. There is one right by my work...yum!
