On the hottest day this summer (or I should say the hottest day so far) we decided to keep our activities indoors. So we headed over to the Udvar-Hazy Air and Space museum about 15 miles away from our house. We had been wanting to go for some time, but sometimes you don't see the beauty in your own backyard. There are actually two air and space museums, one on the national mall and the other(Udvar-Hazy) near the Dulles airport. They are both owned by the Smithsonian and have free admission. The bummer is parking at Udavar-Hazy is $15.00 (not free). However, we found out that after 4 pm parking is free and the museum is open until 6:30pm during the summer! Booya!
It seems like they have every airplane ever invented in this place!
Charly loves airplanes so she was kind of in awe of this place
Plus there was a lot of room to walk around
The kid would not let go of her map!
But the pièce de résistance was the Discovery Shuttle that was flown into DC a few months ago after it's final voyage in space! I saw it flown in from the roof of the parking garage at work. It was really cool to see up close and personal.
It was a really fun to see all the planes. Charly appreciated getting out of the house and we really appreciated not being in the 100 plus degree weather!
