A foodie is born

We had a great holiday weekend and have lots to share (a race, visit with family, the 4th festivities) but I didn't take pictures of most of it. Brinn did though, so maybe she'll share some great pictures with us eventually. Either way, we'll post about it later (once I get my act together)- but let me just say, watching Charly watch the fireworks was the best thing ever. She was super tired, but once the fireworks started she was totally in awe. She literally just sat with her jaw dropped open the entire time, every few minutes looking over at me as if to say "are you seeing this, mom?!". It was awesome.

I did take pictures of Charly's first encounter with solids- and we have a killer photo sequence to share the experience with you all!

Yesterday we decided was the day! She's been fascinated with food for quite a while, is close to sitting, and  we both just felt she was ready, so we went for it (our pediatrician recommended we start them a week before her 6 month checkup, so we are only doing it a week earlier than advised-oops!). She tried squash (opted not to go the rice cereal route since she has issues with constipation from time to time-I thought veggies would be better for her system) and loved it! Here is the before picture:

Side note: I wish you could see her cute Independence Day outfit- she's got a grey star patterned onesie with a red skirt.

She was totally mesmerized with her food- like wouldn't take her eyes off the spoon mesmerized.

Once she got a taste of it she basically dove in for each bite, leaning her little body forward as much as she possibly could.

She was pretty serious about her food.

She didn't get nearly as messy as I thought she would. Pretty good, little girl!

Totally pleased with herself, and she should be! I have a feeling she is going to be a great eater, which is a good thing in this family! She already wanted to hold the spoon!

And for any of you who feel like pictures just aren't enough (mom), here is a 4 minute video of Charly eating. Let me warn you of a few things:

-My voice in annoyingly high in this video. Really any video where I'm talking to her.
-There is no real exciting moment where she flaps her arms or smiles or anything. It really is just 4 min. of her eating.
-Our video skills are absolutely archaic- no editing here, just a camera on a tripod.

Enjoy!
