| The girl just loves food! |
Part of our not-picky-kid plan is to make a lot of her food. Have any of you ever tried store bought baby food? It is b-l-a-n-d. I tried her peas the other day, and honestly I'm surprised she likes them. Matt was given a baby food cookbook called Cooking for Baby by Lisa Barnes. He is excited to try some of the recipes that she'll be ready to eat in a month or so when he can start introducing herbs and spices and get a little fancy with her food. Our hope is that by being familiar with lots of different tastes and textures early on she'll be open to new foods as she grows. We'll see.
For now, I'm making her some simple vegetable purees, including butternut and acorn squash, zucchini, peas, and sweet potatoes. I may try my hand at some brown rice cereal as well. I know this makes me seem like a total hippy, but whatevs. I'm a cheapskate. Plus I love that the color of the home made baby food is the color of real vegetables. They are so vibrant and pretty. I know I'm a total nerd for caring about that, but its the simple pleasures in life, ya know?
| Speaking of simple pleasures, I pretty much can't get enough of these pictures. These goofy faces are so Charly! |
I know, enough already with the pictures, right? But come on, how funny is that face?!
Back to our topic.
The process is pretty straightforward: Cook vegetables. Puree vegetables. Thin with breastmilk/formula/water. Freeze to store. I froze ours in an ice cube tray so that we'll have nice small portions that will be easy to heat up. We'll let you know of any tips or tricks we discover in our baby food making endeavors, but this website has a ton of great info for any of you that may be interested in trying it out yourself.
Are any of you experienced baby food makers? Have any advice to share?
